Bus Tour + Theater show + Homestead tour
Located in the heart of the Route 340 Amish Farmland, the Amish
Experience Theater and Country Homestead Tour offers visitors a look into
the lives of one Amish family as they struggle to live according to a set of
simpler rules than mainstream America. At the F/X Theater - a unique venue
featuring five screens, amazing sound, lighting and special effects - the
family's story is brought to life in a film detailing their daily lives.
After the film, take a 45-minute Homestead Tour of the nearby Lancaster
County Heritage site, which takes you into the home and into the lives of
the family portrayed in the film. Often times, visitors will travel through
Pennsylvania's Amish country looking for ways to simplify their own lives -
and sometimes, the Amish Experience helps them find that comfort.
The Amish Experience F/X Theater: The Experience Theater is an
emotional presentation of who the Amish are, told through new media and
special effect techniques. It is truly unique, one of only four
"experiential theaters" in North America. Many visitors have called it "the
best presentation on the Amish we have ever seen." The theater building
itself is a striking, barn-like structure of 35 feet in height which blends
well into the farmland setting. Inside, the actual theater area is an
intimate space seating about 150 people, and designed especially for the
show. Theis allows for the creation of dynamic experiential effects.
Amish Country Bus Tour: Amish Country Tour offer the visitor a
"roadside view" of the Amish themselves, where they live, work, and play. In
the process of seeing the real people, this "roadside view" of the Amish
will answer many of the how and why questions relating to specific aspects
of the culture. One popular stop is on an actual Amish farm, where quilts
and crafts are sold. (Note that Amish businesses are closed on Sundays.)
There is also a wine-tasting on the tour (grape juice for the children.)
The Amish Country Homestead: The only Amish house designated a
HERITAGE SITE by Lancaster County. In order to achieve this honor, we needed
to pass strict authenticity and interpretation requirements. It is furnished
as the Amish live today, not 20 years ago. Emphasis is on the furnishings,
how the Amish live without electricity, how they set up for church in the
home, and details, of Amish dress. Through the fictional Fisher family, who
visitors have met in the theater presentation, we do through each room with
a guide, learning how each family member lives.
