Day 1 : New York - Portland - Head Light House |
Our tour departs in the morning for Portland, Maine. The largest city in Maine, Portland combines New England charm in a vibrant urban setting. On the way, we will have an opportunity to partake in tax free shopping at a spirits and liquors shop (optional). Upon our arrival in Portland, we will visit Portland Head Lighthouse in Fort Williams. Portland Head Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse in Maine, and situated on a pristine coastal park. On any given day, it is common to see visitors enjoying the fields, tennis courts, beach, or simply strolling through the many paths and walkways. From there, we will head to downtown Portland to enjoy its shopping and restaurants. There are numerous shops for clothing, home accessories, and souvenirs that line the cobblestone streets of the historic waterfront district. World class dining is available, ranging from fusion cuisines to traditional lobster dishes. |
Day 2 : Acadia National Park - Bar Harbor - Thunder Hole - Cadillac Mountain |
We will spend the day exploring Acadia National Park and its surroundings. First up is Bar Harbor, a beautiful village lined with old fashioned cottages and covered in greenery. The village is a destination for tourists from all over the world, and especially favored by cyclists and cruise ships for its sun soaked coastal views. We will also have an opportunity to enjoy the Acadia Nature Cruise, a one hour, fully narrated cruise (seasonal, weather permitting). The cruise will seek out marine life, including eagles and seals, while offering timeless views of mansions and the Egg Rock Lighthouse. We will then visit Thunder Hole, where we can experience the thunder of the sea against the rocky shores of Maine. These powerful waves can spout as much as 40 feet high, and are responsible for carving the small cavern at the end of the inlet for which Thunder Hole is named. The tour continues to Cadillac Mountain, the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard. The site is special for a number of reasons - it is composed largely of delicate pink granite, and during a large part of the year, it is the first place to view a sunrise in the United States. |
Day 3 : York's Wild Kingdom - New York |
Today, we will tour York's Wild Kingdom. The largest zoo and amusement park in the area, York's Wild Kingdom is sure to please every member of the family. Offering a variety of family rides, paddle boats and a petting zoo, it's most notable feature is Rewa, the White Begal Tiger. Rewa is Maine's only White Bengal Tiger, making it that much more amazing to observe first hand. If time permits, we will also visit Mystic Village. Home to an entire recreated 19th century seafaring village, it also features Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration (optional). The aquarium is home to a huge variety of ocean life, including 3 beluga whales, sea lions, penguins and sharks. Kids will have the opportunity to experience hands on exhibits and sea life touch stations. Our tour concludes, and we will then return to New York. |
