Day 2 : Bay Area - Yosemite - Fresno |
From the Bay Area, we’ll motor high up to Yosemite National Park where we’ll arrive after lunch, and marvel at the vistas that caused early explorers to call Yosemite the “incomparable valley”. Gaze at the jagged rocks of grotesque shapes, sheer precipices and overhanging rocks, waterfalls dropping hundreds of feet, and endless mountain ridges, as we come to understand why Yosemite is considered one of the most scenic spots in the Western United States. Sure to leave a lasting memory are the Giant Sequoia Trees, the Tunnel View, Bridalveil Falls, Yosemite Falls, the Merced River, and the famous rock formations, El Captain and the Half Dome. The day ends with an overnight stay in Fresno. |
Day 3 : Fresno - Hearst Castle - Bay Area |
After an evening in Fresno, it’s a sunrise journey through America’s most fertile agricultural region to the windswept central coast. Looming off of the mountain cliffs is our morning destination, Hearst castle. This 90,000 square foot, Renaissance-inspired, part Roman-deco manor was imagined and commissioned by media tycoon William Randolph Hearst in 1919, and has since become a National Historic Landmark. Knowledgeable guides will lead us through every detail of decadent and luxurious elegance of Hearst’s sprawling ranch above the clouds on ‘La Cuesta Encantada’. We’ll walk through the grounds viewing the collection of buildings and structures, the Neptune pool and courtyard built to resemble an ancient Roman temple, the multiple statues and artwork that adorn the property, and even exotic animals such as zebras that roam freely. We’ll make our return to the Bay area in the afternoon, arriving at approximately 7 pm to transfer directly to San Francisco Airport. Please arrange for your departing flight to leave after 9:30 pm. |
