Yosemite, with 1,169 square mi of parkland, is 94.5% undeveloped wilderness, most of it accessible only on foot or horseback. The western boundary dips as low as 2,000 ft in the chaparral-covered foothills; the eastern boundary rises to 13,000 ft at points along the Sierra crest.
