Day 1 : New York - Portland - Head Light House |
Our tour departs in the morning for Portland, Maine. The largest city in Maine, Portland combines New England charm in a vibrant urban setting. On the way, we will have an opportunity to partake in tax free shopping at a wine, spirit and liquor shop in New Hampshire (optional). Upon our arrival in Portland, we will visit Portland Head Lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in Maine, which is situated on the pristine coastal park of Fort Williams. On any given day, it is common to see visitors enjoying the fields, tennis courts, beach, or simply strolling through the many paths and walkways. From there, we will head to cobblestone streets and historic waterfront district of downtown Portland to enjoy its thriving street life. There are numerous shops for clothing, home accessories, and souvenirs to tempt you, as well as world class dining in a relaxed atmosphere, ranging from fusion cuisines to traditional lobster and seafood dishes. |
Day 2 : Acadia National Park - Bar Harbor - Thunder Hole - Cadillac Mountain |
Today we’ll spend the day exploring gorgeous Acadia National Park* and its surroundings. The tour will reach Bar Harbor at around 11:00am, a beautiful seaside town lined with old fashioned cottages, lovely flowers and trees, and quaint shops. The village is a destination for tourists from all over the world, and is especially favored by cyclist groups and cruise ships for its sun soaked coastal views. Next, we’ll enjoy the Acadia Nature Cruise*, a one hour, fully-narrated cruise (seasonal, weather permitting). The cruise will seek out marine life, including eagles and seals, while offering timeless views of impressive mansions along the coastline and the Egg Rock Lighthouse. Then it’s on to see Thunder Hole, where powerful waves meet the rock and can spout as much as 40 feet high; over time, the force of the waves carved the small cavern at the end of the inlet for which the area is named. Our tour continues with a drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain, the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard, which is famous for the delicate pink color of its granite face, spectacular views of land and water, and its morning views of the sunrise. For much of the year, it is the first place to see the sun rise in the United States. |
Day 3 : York's Wild Kingdom - New York |
Today, we will make our way back to the south coast of Maine to tour York's Wild Kingdom*. The largest zoo and amusement park in the area, York's Wild Kingdom is sure to please every member of the family. Offering a variety of family rides, paddle boats and a petting zoo, it's most notable feature is Rewa, the White Bengal Tiger, the only such tiger in the state of Maine. If time permits on our way home, we will also visit Mystic Village in Connecticut, home to a model19th century seafaring village, as well as the Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration*. The aquarium is home to a huge variety of ocean life, including Beluga whales, sea lions, penguins and sharks. Kids will have the opportunity to experience hands-on exhibits and sea life touch stations throughout the museum. After this, our final stop, we will make the last leg of our journey to New York, where we should arrive in the evening. |
