At the foot of the Tiburtini hills which dominate the vast quarries of travertine marble and are host to the springs bringing the sulfurous waters to the spa town of Bagni di Tivoli, we will first stop to visit Villa Adriana. The ruins can only hint at the grandeur and beauty of this villa which the emperor Hadrian had built as a souvenir of the monuments and sites he had admired during his travels in the East.
