Check out the museum and the exhibit areas, the power plant 500 feet down, watch a movie on the dam’s construction, and see Oskar J.W. Hansen’s renown sculptures on the Nevada side commemorating the building of Hoover Dam, and, in his words, "The building genius of America".
Hoover Dam, standing 700 feet high, is more than a concrete edifice. Built to harness the power of the Colorado River, the dam is one of the largest in the world, is greater in volume than the largest pyramid in Egypt, and produces more than 2,000 megawatts of hydroelectric power, supplying Nevada, California, Colorado and Arizona with a significant portion of their energy. In 1935 the construction costs topped $49 million—$676 million in today’s dollars.
Please Note: On all Hoover Dam tours bags, purses, cases, back packs and fanny packs must undergo security x-ray screening and are subject to search as are strollers and wheelchairs. Cameras are allowed.
