All in one afternoon, this popular excursion lets visitors experience some of the most exciting natural phenomena Iceland has to offer.
We'll visit Pingvellir, where the Icelandic parliament Alțingi was established in 930. This geologically unique spot is the place where the two tectonic plates joining America and Europe meet. These continents are slowly drifting apart. In 2004 Pingvellir was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List and is now one of eight hundred such places in the world that have been honored by UNESCO.
Next, we'll head to the Gullfoss Waterfall, the spouting hot spring of Geysir and Strokkur. Our journey continues to the town of Hveragerdi, a small, but beautiful horticultural town where you'll see how geothermal energy has been harnessed to create unique greenhouse cultivation.
Finally we'll have a scenic ride back, over a mountain heath and back to the capital. Although this trip is an "express" tour, you'll be visiting some of the most well known historical sites and natural phenomena in the country. |
